Lloyds Bank in Rochester High Street will close down next year leaving no more banks in the town
09:40, 30 November 2017
Lloyds, Rochester’s only remaining High Street bank, is to close.
A spokesman said the bank will close on April 16 next year following a survey on how customers now make financial transactions.
A statement, said: “ Following a careful review, Rochester branch will close on 16 April 2018.
"We have made the difficult decision to close this branch due to customers using it less often.
"In addition, the majority of customers are also using alternative ways to bank and we have another branch close by.”
The decision comes after NatWest shut in June this year, despite a campaign by Rochester and Strood MP Kelly Tolhurst to keep it open.
The closure also sparked anger among traders in the town who use the counter service on a daily basis to cash up and get cash flow for the tills.
Lloyds bosses looked at how people use facilities, current levels of service and alternative ways of banking.
The nearest alternative branch is in Strood.
