Last chance for shoplifter
07:37, 11 April 2011
A shoplifter, who was banned from every store in the country except two in Strood, has been given a 12-month community order.
During that time, 34-year-old Kellie Hiscock will have to do six months of drug rehabilitation.
Hiscock, of Bligh Way, Strood, was banned from every shop apart from the Hobbs Pharmacy and Morrisons in Strood as part of her bail conditions.
Now she has been sentenced, the ban will continue for four months, with the only exception being her local chemist to pick up the methadone she needs to deal with her drug addiction.
Hiscock, who previously lived in Lilac Crescent, Strood, must get written permission from her probation officer before she can be allowed to enter a shop.
She appeared before Medway magistrates for sentencing after admitting two charges of shoplifting and two charges of being in possession of heroin and crack cocaine, at an earlier hearing.
She also had six other similar offences taken into consideration by the bench.
Hiscock had been in custody for several days before her sentencing as she had breached her bail conditions by going into a shop in Sittingbourne.
She accepted she had committed a breach while she was being sentenced.
Defending solicitor Luke Meyer said: "She made early admissions and pleaded guilty.
"She knows she's in the last chance saloon and has a vast amount of thefts on her record, she's also had a lengthy addiction.
"She's done well on her methadone programme and has done everything possible that's been asked of her and knows there are no other options and she is motivated towards getting herself free of drugs."
Chairman of the bench Gerald Bartlett said: "Miss Hiscock, you have a shameful record and this is your absolute last chance."
