Level 42 prepare to headline 80s night at Rochester Castle

00:01, 25 April 2014

One of the biggest acts of the 1980s will kickstart this year’s Castle Concerts in Rochester.

Level 42 will open the gigs on Wednesday, July 16, and join Westlife star Shane Filan and reggae legends UB40 in the summer line-up.

Their jazz-funk sound spawned million-selling hits including Lessons In Love, Something About You and Leaving Me Now.

Lead singer Mark King’s unique slap-bass technique is probably most easily recognised on the global smash hit Running in the Family.

After breaking up in 1994, the band got back together in 2004 with original member Mike
Lindup joining Mark King again.

The 80s-themed night will be completed with special guests Shakatak, whose hits include Night Birds and Streetwalkin’, taking to the stage.

Cllr Howard Doe said: “We’re thrilled Level 42 will be opening this year’s Castle Concerts, with special guests Shakatak. It is going to be an 80s night to remember.

“Last year our 80s concert, which had acts like Tony Hadley
and Go West, went down a storm, and we’re certain Level 42 will be equally loved.”

Westlife star Shane Filan will play the castle on Thursday, July 17, with Gillingham’s The Voice finalist Jamie Johnson as support. Tickets went on sale on Wednesday.

That will be followed by the sold-out show from UB40 on Friday, July 18, and the traditional Castle Proms on Saturday, July 19.

Tickets for Level 42 go on general sale at 10am today (Friday).
