A lorry driver who was arrested on suspicion of causing the death of a Medway teenager has been released without charge.

Officers investigating the fatal crash on Medway City Estate which killed young Strood motorcyclist, Jack Mander, say the lorry driver - who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving - will not be charged in connection with the incident.

Jack, 17, died when his Yamaha 125 motorcycle hit a parked Volvo lorry in Anthony’s Way, Strood, shortly before 9pm on Thursday, October 13, last year.

At the time, officers appealed for information and wanted to speak to witnesses who had either travelled along Anthony’s Way after the incident, or who noticed it had happened.

After the tragedy, Jack’s friends and family laid flowers and tributes at the crash site and held candlelit vigils there.

The lorry driver, a 44-year-old man from Wiltshire, was arrested at the scene and was bailed until today. A police spokesman has now confirmed he will not face any charges.

The spokesman added: “Officers from Kent Police’s serious collision investigation unit carried out a full and thorough investigation into the incident and presented a case to the Crown Prosecution Service, which ruled there was insufficient evidence to support a prosecution.

“The family of the motorcyclist who died in the collision - Jack Mander, 17 - have been updated and continue to be supported by Kent Police officers.”
