Inquest opens into death of M2 bridge jumper Amandeep Garcha
00:01, 14 February 2017
An inquest has opened into the death a man who jumped from the M2 bridge after a woman was seriously injured in an attack.
The body of Amandeep Garcha was found in the river near Medway Valley Park on February 1, 10 days after police were called to the bridge following the assault at a house in Grafton Avenue, Rochester.
Officers initially went to the property at 10.17am on January 22 and were called to the bridge just two minutes later.
The footpath coastbound between J2 and J3 was cordoned off until around 1.30pm.
An air ambulance was also scrambled, while members of Medway Coastguard and divers in wetsuits searched the shoreline.
The woman suffered multiple stab wounds.
She was taken to King's College Hospital by road with injuries to her neck, chest, abdomen and arms.
A silver car seen parked on the hard shoulder was later recovered from the bridge.
Mr Garcha, a 34-year-old accountant, lived in Grafton Avenue with his wife Harjinder Garcha.
A full inquest will take place in April.
