Part of the motorway was shut after a car flipped onto its roof.
Emergency services were called to the M2 between Blue Bell Hill in Chatham and Rochester at around 1.30am this morning.
Pictures from the scene show the white vehicle on its roof, with four of five lanes on the London-bound carriage blocked.
At least two police cars, an ambulance and half a dozen officers were seen at the site of the crash ushering traffic down one lane.
Earlier this morning, a National Highways spokesman told motorists: “If you're heading M2 this morning, please be aware of the ongoing closure westbound between J3 and J2 near Rochester following a serious collision.”
It was cleared and fully reopened by 4am.
Police and the ambulance service have been contacted for more information.
