A man who died after being hit by a car as he crossed the road has been named.
Jason Lowdell, 37, was airlifted to King’s College Hospital after being knocked down by a red Toyota Aygo on the A2 in Gillingham shortly before 1pm on Monday.
He died in hospital yesterday. He has now been named locally as Jason Lowdell, who was also known as MC Geronimo.
Mr Lowdell is believed to have lived in Chatham. He was a former Thomas Aveling pupil and also studied at Mid Kent College.
Earlier today, Chatham nightclub Tap N Tin paid tribute to Mr Lowdell on its Facebook and said during his rap battles at the venue he was 'in his element'.
The incident happened on Soverign Boulevard, close to the junction with Rotary Gardens. Police said at the time he suffered life-threatening injuries.
Officers from the serious collision investigation unit are looking into the accident, and are appealing for witnesses.
The road was initially closed at the roundabout leading to Gillingham Business Park, near the Brewers Fayre pub and the Premier Inn, causing long delays for people heading towards Chatham.
A police spokesman said at the time: “The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital with injuries which are not believed to be serious.”
South East Coast Ambulance Service also confirmed ambulance crews attended the scene, along with the Kent Air Ambulance crew.
The road was closed for several hours and at 3.40pm traffic was still being diverted along Ito Way.
Three ambulances, three paramedic cars and four police cars were sent to the area.
One man, who went past the scene of the accident on the other side of the road on a bus, said: “It looked like someone had been run over as the paramedics were working on someone on the road and a car had a smashed window screen.”
The road was eventually reopened at around 8pm that night and yesterday morning, police said Mr Lowdell was still in a critical condition.
However, he passed away in hospital later in the day.
