Man hit over the head with sock filled with pool table balls in alleged serious assault at the Fleur de Lis pub, Gillingham

A man was struck in the head with a sock filled with pool table balls following an alleged assault at a pub.
It happened at the Fleur de Lis in Gillingham after an altercation in the bar area.
Police attended the scene and a suspect was arrested following the incident.
The victim, who is in his 30s, was left with swelling and cuts to his head and was later taken to hospital following the incident which happened shortly before 8pm on Monday, September 16.
Neil Packer, of Wood Street, Gillingham, has since been charged on suspicion of wounding with intent, affray, possession of cocaine and failing to provide a sample for a drug test.
The 59-year-old appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was conditionally bailed to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court, on Monday (October 14).
Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault or the events leading up to it.
