A man has been charged with rape in connection with an alleged sex attack on a woman in Chatham.
The woman, who is her 30s, reported to police she had been raped in an alleyway on her way home from a night out in the early hours of Sunday, July 28.
She was on her way to a friends’ home after leaving the Coyotes nightclub in New Road, but told police she had been attacked as she walked behind Rochester Street via an alleyway off Corkwell Street.
Shortly after the incident was reported to detectives they issued an efit of the man they were hunting in connection with the incident.
This week police revealed they had arrested a man on Wednesday, August 7, on suspicion of rape and charged him with the offence the next day.
Marcin Gorniak, 30, of High Street, Chatham, has now appeared before magistrates in Medway.
The case against Gorniak was adjourned and sent to Maidstone Crown Court.
He was remanded in custody and will next appear there on Friday, August 30.
Two other men also from Chatham, one 19 and the other 23, were also arrested on suspicion of rape but have been bailed until September 6, pending further enquiries.
