A man who threatened and stabbed his victim in a savage attack in his own home has been jailed.

Tommy Powell visited the address in Strood with a mutual friend of the victim and thrust a knife into the man's chest after being asked why he was there.

The 34-year-old of Ansell Avenue, Chatham denied charges of wounding with intent and possessing a knife.

But a jury found him guilty following a trial at Maidstone Crown Court following the incident at about 2pm on June 12, 2020.

The court heard Powell attended the property and was not known to the victim but was allowed into the house by the victim's partner.

When the occupant asked Powell what he was doing there, he turned aggressive and threatened the victim, a man in his 20s.

He grabbed him by the shoulder, pulled out a knife and plunged the blade into his victim's chest and caused an injury to their finger.

Officers attended the scene and tracked Powell to another house nearby and he was detained about 90 minutes later.

He was charged the next afternoon and has been on remand in custody since the incident.

A judge sentenced Powell to seven years and six months in prison at Maidstone Crown Court yesterday.

Charlotte Lundy, an investigating officer at Medway CID, said: "Without any provocation, Powell subjected the victim to a savage assault which could easily have had fatal consequences.

"He is clearly a dangerous offender who thinks little of inflicting serious violence on other people and I am pleased a custodial sentence has been imposed.

"I hope this result provides the victim with a degree of closure."
