Two goals by Adam Marsh and substitute Chris Metitri eased Chatham over the hurdle in The Alan Boon Cup at Maidstone Road on Tuesday night, ending their five-match losing streak.

Player-manager Kevin Watson was happy with the result and said: "The feeling in the dressing room afterwards was we didn’t get above ourselves when things were going well earlier in the season, and we haven’t panicked when it’s being going against us.

"I must admit I was getting a bit anxious because we were losing games we deserved to win."

Watson said: "I wanted to change things around to give players minutes they needed, but we are not taking the competition lightly and it was pleasing to get a result."

Brad Potter suffered a hamstring strain and was due to have a fitness test last night (Thursday) but Watson hopes he will recover in time for the Ryman League Division 1 North home game against mid-table Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.

He said: "I expected them to be doing better than they are with the resources they have got. They have suffered a bit of a dip, but I’m sure they will pick up."
