Medway councillor Naushabah Khan is getting a ringside seat in the final hours of the American presidential campaign, where she says the result is "too close to call".

The former parliamentary candidate for Rochester & Strood is part of a delegation of Labour volunteers helping in a last push to help put Hillary Clinton in the White House after tomorrow's election.

She said: “Our main task is to actually get people out to vote – a bit like it is in the UK. There are people who will vote for Hillary because they don’t want Donald Trump.

“I think the higher the turnout, the higher Hillary’s chances of winning. At the moment it is too close to call.”

Ms Khan is based in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina with a group of volunteers. The highlight of her week-long visit so far has been meeting President Obama.

She added: "It's good atmosphere out here, although you have a number of people choosing not to vote, because they do not like either candidate.

"A number of people out here understand the importance of the vote and are eager to see Hillary Clinton win, not just for the US but for the message it sends the rest of the world."

Although she had been out encouraging people to vote, many had already cast their ballot through the American 'early voting' system which lasted for 16 days.

She added that campaign methods were not dissimilar to Britain's so she had been out knocking on doors.

However, campaign rallies were a big feature and she had attended one in the crucial state of North Carolina address by President Obama the day after landing on Friday.
