Medway dished out a first defeat of the season to Folkestone in London 3 South East at Priestfields on Saturday.
The hosts were first to score with a try from Lee Burns and Glen Wadsworth converted a tricky kick to give Medway a 7-0 lead.
Folkestone, who started the afternoon joint top of the table, dominated the early scrums and with 15 minutes gone Medway were pinned back. From a ruck outside their 22m line, they lost control and Folkestone scored in the corner. This was unconverted but the momentum was with the visiting side.
Medway had to defend well with Dale Burnley, Colin Chapman and Roger Rhyhnheart working hard to keep the lead intact.
Medway stretched their lead with a try from Green and another three-point conversion put them 14-5 ahead.
The visitors pulled the scores back before the break when Folkestone drove over the line for a converted try.
Folkestone’s front row began to tire in the second half and Medway were able to produce ball from line-out and scrummage. The visitors were twice penalised as Medway put the pressure on and Wadsworth kicked two penalties to take the score to 20-12.
