Medway has ranked in the bottom five areas in the country for primary schools results.
The latest primary school league tables, released this week by the Department of Children, Schools and Families, are based on Key Stage 2 Sats tests taken by pupils in May 2009.
This year’s Medway results showed fewer children reached the standards expected in English and maths compared to the year before.
There was a sharp drop in standards in English, with 75 per cent of pupils getting a level four or above, compared to 78 per cent the year below.
And Medway is among one of the worst performing local authorities in England for the scores, with more schools failing to reach the national average than not.
Director of children and adult services Rose Collinson (pictured above) said the authority is disappointed with the results and has carried out assessments to pinpoint how it can help poorly performing schools.
