Swimming pools at Medway Park were closed yesterday due to the water looking 'milky'.
The diving and the teaching pools remained open but the main pool and boom pool - the shallow pool at the end - had the cover left on all day.
The Black Lion Swimming Club had to cancel their club championships that evening.
A post on the club's Facebook page said: "Tonight’s Club Championships Session three has had to be cancelled due to the pool looking like 'Milk'.
"The main Pool at Medway Park is closed for the day while the staff try to sort the issue but it wont be fixed today.
"If we and the lifeguards can’t see the bottom of the pool it’s unsafe to swim.
"I have emailed parents and swimmers and hope that I have managed to get everyone concerned.
"Please enjoy an evening off."
The gym and other facilities remained open.
A council spokesperson said: "A Medway Council spokesperson said: “The system that automatically dispenses chlorine into the main swimming pool unexpectedly stopped working overnight on Saturday.
"The issue was resolved on Sunday morning, but the main swimming pool was closed as a precaution while the chlorine levels rebalanced. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The pool reopened at 1:30pm today.
