Impressive Medway gained their first London 3 South
East win of the season, 44-6 at Old Gravesendians on Saturday.
Glen Wadsworth kicked an early penalty to put Medway ahead and Dafydd Ruffel’s quick reactions saw him go over for a smartly-taken try.
However, Medway lost Rob Ellis through injury and OGs reduced the deficit to 8-3 with a penalty.
The game was decided, however, by three Medway tries and a penalty in a 15-minute spell. All three tries were well taken by the powerful running of Colin Chapman.
Wadsworth converted one and added a penalty for good measure to give Medway a comprehensive lead at half-time.
The hosts had the advantage of the slope in the second half but they could not break down a stubborn Medway defence.
Just after the hour, Wadsworth intercepted in his own half and went the distance to score under the posts before converting himself.
Old Gravesendians scored a drop goal but Wadsworth scored a late converted try to cap an excellent win for Medway, whose defence was the real key to their success.
