Medway kept the pressure on the leading clubs in London 3 South East after a narrow 13-10 victory over fellow challengers East Grinstead on Saturday.
Grinstead had won their last six games and a third-minute penalty put them into an early lead. The pressure continued for the majority of the half as the visitors made the most of playing with the wind and rain behind them.
A steal from Grinstead on 30 minutes led to a try as their fly-half ran over for a smartly-taken converted score.
Glen Wadsworth was denied a try for Medway after making a rare break and, for the final moments of the half, the home side had to defend strongly to keep the score at 10-0.
Wadsworth kicked an early three points after the turnaround to put Medway right back in the game and an error put the Kent side back on level terms.
Grinstead lost control and it culminated in Matt Wadhams going over under the posts and Wadsworth converting.
Wadsworth missed a drop goal with six minutes to go, but with his second opportunity he kicked between the uprights to hand the points to Medway.
