Men rescued from motorboat
18:34, 01 May 2011
Two men had to be rescued after their motorboat got stuck on mud near Gillingham Pier today (Sunday)
Medway Coastguards and the Sheerness lifeboat were called out after 3pm to help the stranded men, both in their 20s.
A seven-strong coastguard team used winches and stretches to bring them to safety. The boat will be moved once it is refloated by the tide.
A coastguard spokeman said: "It looks like they misjudged the tide and then got stuck. If we hadn't gone out to rescue them they would have had to have waited for another six or seven hours.
"This is the time of year when people start to go out more on the river so we would urge them to check the tides before they set off.
"They should also make sure they have all the necessary safety equipment on board."
