A mum has taken her three sons out of a secondary school after one of them had to be taken to hospital following a brutal attack in the playground

A video has been posted online of Bobby-Lee Francis, 16, being beaten to the ground by several boys at Greenacre Academy in Chatham.

His mother, Emma Chaney, called for an ambulance after he started blacking out, vomiting and complained of feeling dizzy.

He was taken to A&E at Medway Maritime Hospital where he was examined for a suspected bleed to the brain and King's College Hospital in London, which specialises in head injuries, was notified.

The teenager was kept in for 24 hours for observation, with his mum at his bedside.

Ms Chaney, 38, said: "I was terrified. I thought I had lost him."

Since the incident on the morning of Monday, November 21 she has removed Bobby-Lee, Obie, 15, and Danny, 12, from the school in Walderslade Road and is looking to educate them elsewhere.

"In my view they should do some sort of community service. It's no good just giving them a warning..."

The boys who carried out the attack are believed to have been suspended.

Head teacher, Mrs. Shelley Bridger said: "The school acted quickly to sanction those responsible.

"We have a high staff presence in communal areas during social times and within our local community. When the incident occurred, staff quickly intervened and ensured that Bobby-Lee was seen by first aid.

"The students who committed the act have been severely sanctioned. We have worked closely with the police and the family of Bobby-Lee and have done all that we can in supporting the family moving forwards.

"I would like to thank staff for their swift and selfless intervention and am saddened that this incident occurred."

But Ms Chaney is angry that a more serious punishment was not given.

She said: "In my view they should do some sort of community service. It's no good just giving them a warning.

"From what Bobby has told me it was completely out of the blue. He was walking across the playground and one of them was aiming a catapult at him.

"Then at least five of them started laying into him, punching and kicking him to the ground.

"A teacher broke it up. He called me and I told him to wait for me at the main office.

"When I got there, he was in a terrible state, shaking. His jaw was badly bruised and he was suffering from really bad concussion."

Ms Chaney walked her son back to their home in nearby Churchill Avenue where his condition got worse and she called 999.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 11.40am on November 21 to a report that a boy had been assaulted during an incident involving several pupils at a school in Walderslade Road, Chatham.

"The boy required treatment at a hospital and was later discharged. Officers investigating the assault have spoken to the victim’s mother and are also in liaison with the school."
