Appeal after body found in Firethorn Close, The Vineries estate, Gillingham

Murder detectives are urgently appealing for dashcam footage after a body was found in a flooded flat on Thursday.

Emergency services made the grim discovery after being called to a fire in Firethorn Close, The Vineries estate, Gillingham.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at 20 past midnight on Friday, and remains in custody.

He is believed to be known to the victim - a disabled man in his 60s.

Detectives would now like to hear urgently from motorists whose vehicles are fitted with a dashcam and may have been parked in the following locations between 7am and 11am on Thursday;

- The Vineries

- Castlemaine Avenue between The Vineries and Grange Road

- Grange Road between Ingram Road and Castlemaine Avenue

- Parr Avenue

- Burnt Oak Terrace

A source said on Thursday: "There were about ten police cars there, fire and forensics. The house is cordoned off and a police officer is on guard outside."

He added: "His brother found him this morning having done some shopping for him.

"He was lying in bed in a ground floor flat. There were people living above.

"The flat was flooded but there was evidence of a fire."
