The family of a Gillingham man who died after being attacked on the way home after a night out have paid tribute to him.

Police have launched a murder inquiry after dad-of-five Paul Scott died from injuries he received near Balmoral Road in the early hours of last Sunday.

Mr Scott, of Franklin Road, was knocked to the floor and suffered a broken leg, but at first refused treatment.

The 43-year-old later visited hospital in considerable pain and his leg was put in a cast.

He returned to hospital on Thursday but was pronounced dead at 10am. A post-mortem examination has revealed Mr Scott may have suffered a blood clot.

A statement from his family released today said: "Paul was a well-loved father to five children, sadly taken from us too soon following the untimely death of his sister on Boxing Day.

"This family has had too much hurt and heartache. Paul was an exceptional man with the kindest heart, fun and loving."

Meanwhile, murder squad detectives have released an artist's impression (pictured above) of a man they wish to speak to about the attack.

He is described as white, about 5ft 8in, of muscular build with short hair.
