A housing development has been named in memory of a father-of-three who dedicated his life to helping his neighbours.
Housing association Optivo has named one of its apartment blocks in Crusade Way, Rochester, after resident Glen Cady.
Glen’s family unveiled a plaque and officially named the building ‘Glen Cady House’ at a special ceremony last month.
Glen was chairman of Optivo’s resident strategy group and made a positive difference to the lives of many, including more than 8,000 residents living across Kent.
He spent a decade shaping and leading one of the most successful tenant involvement approaches in the social housing sector.
Glen had muscular dystrophy but never let his condition define him.
He volunteered for Muscular Dystrophy UK for 30 years and was one of its National Advocacy Ambassadors.
Glen grew up in Warren Wood Road, Rochester, and was living in Chatham before he died two years ago.
Emma Tamburro, one of Glen’s three daughters, said: "We know our dad would be extremely honoured to have had this development named in his memory.
"Even more so because it’s just a short distance from where he grew up.
"As a family, we remain proud of the positive difference he made to the lives of so many people."
Paul Hackett, chief executive at Optivo, added: “Glen was an inspirational Optivo resident and a proud son of Kent, so it’s fitting this building is just across the river from where he grew up.
"Glen will always be remembered for his determination to help residents, his selflessness and his great sense of humour. He was passionate about social housing, our residents and the building of new homes.
"I hope naming this building in his memory goes some small way to honouring Glen and the difference he made to so many residents’ lives”
The first phase of Optivo’s Temple Wharf development completed during last year's spring and features 58 homes which are a mixture of affordable rent and shared ownership. They include one-, two- and three-bedroom homes across three apartments blocks and six houses.
