A driver has been fined and motorists were ordered to move on by police during a crackdown on nuisance vehicles.

Officers went to the Ratcliffe Highway in Hoo as part of a 48-hour dispersal order between last Friday and Sunday (September 8 and 10).

The order covered a number of areas across Medway – including residential roads, car parks and shopping centres in Chatham, Gillingham and Hoo.

The action followed an increase in complaints of nuisance vehicles and dangerous driving.

One person received a traffic offence report for careless driving and not displaying a number plate.

Inquiries are under way to identify the owners of more than 20 other vehicles that may have committed offences.

Police also ordered a number of motorists who were driving in an anti-social manner to leave the area.

Insp Dan Blatter of the Medway Community Safety Unit said: “This enforcement was completed after we received reports from residents about groups of motorists driving in an anti-social manner, causing excessive noise and in some incidents, a danger to other road users.

“We will not hesitate to target the small minority who behave irresponsibly and those who persistently cause a nuisance risk having their vehicles seized.

“This enforcement will be repeated in this and other locations across Medway over the coming weeks.”
