A nurse who told a hospital patient she would "inject" him if he didn’t behave has been struck off.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council was told that Patricia Garrod made the threat while working with mentally ill people on Emerald ward at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Garrod was also said to have made a series of medication errors.

During the hearing it was found she incorrectly recorded a dose of morphine to one patient in August 2012. The next month she left the ward without qualified cover while she was in charge.

In October the same year, one man had been acting disruptively and the hearing was told Garrod said she would "inject" him if he didn't stop that behaviour.

The panel deemed her actions over incorrectly recording the drug leaving the ward amounted to misconduct.

Garrod's fitness to practice was first highlighted in 2014 and a review panel said she would require retraining before she could return to practice. Since then she has not worked as a nurse.

The panel also said if she returned to nursing without retraining she would pose a risk to patient safety.

The author of the hearing report said: "Having found Mrs Garrod’s fitness to practice impaired, the panel therefore directs the registrar to strike Mrs Garrod’s name of the register."
