A police officer has been left with a serious hand injury after attempting to make an arrest.
Two constables were walking down the High Street in Chatham yesterday (October 30) when they spotted a man they believed was breaching his criminal behaviour order by being there.
He was detained but pushed one of the officers to the ground causing a serious hand injury. It is then said the second officer was assaulted before the man was eventually taken into custody.
Stephan Topliss, of no fixed address, was later charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, assault by beating, resisting an officer in the execution of their duty, a public order offence and breaching a criminal behaviour order.
The 30-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (October 31).
