Open day at new fire station in Rochester
05:01, 12 August 2016
Rochester’s new fire station is opening its doors to the public for the first time.
The Marconi Way station, which has been in use since earlier this year, will host an open day from noon to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday).
The day will feature hands-on activities and demonstrations.
Crew manager Nick Dunnet said: “Visitors will get the chance to have a go at squirting water from a hose, get a close look at our fire engines, chat with the Rochester crew about their work and take away some tips which could help them stay safe at home and on the roads.”
Demonstrations will include cutting a “casualty” from a crashed car and showing visitors what happens when a chip pan overheats and catches fire.
Kent Firefighting Museum will show off an old fire engine alongside one of KFRS’s new slimline appliances; the service’s all-terrain vehicle and a fire bike.
Entry is free, limited parking available.
