Two people have been arrested after an attack on two off-duty police officers left one of them unconscious.
British Transport Police said the man and woman were arrested in north Kent this morning and are in custody.
CCTV images of two people were released yesterday after the assault on a train between Gillingham and Rainham at about 10pm on Tuesday.
The pictures showed a woman and a man detectives wanted to question over the incident, which left both officers with face injuries.
One of the officers was repeatedly punched until he lost consciousness.
The attackers then ran from the train at Rainham and are thought to have caught a taxi from the station to the Sittingbourne area.
DS Jeremy Walley said: "Our investigation remains ongoing. We've arrested two people this morning, but would still like to hear from anyone with information about the incident.
"I'd like to thank the public and the media for their assistance with the investigation."
He added: "This was an unprovoked attack that left both officers with facial injuries."
Anyone with information is asked to phone British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference B7/LS of 13/12/12, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
