The parents of a schoolgirl who died hours after being sent home from hospital by a junior doctor are calling for all children to be seen by a senior medic.
Rhianna Rawding, nine, collapsed at her grandmother’s house on Christmas Day 2012. The Delce Junior School pupil had a severe kidney infection which developed into septicaemia.
Earlier that day she had been rushed to A&E at University Hospital in Lewisham but sent home.
An inquest into Rhianna’s death in December, heard from a senior doctor who said had she assessed Rhianna, she would not have discharged her.
Now Rhianna’s parents Justin and Gemma Rawding, of Cutter Close, Upnor, have launched a campaign calling for senior doctors to see every child before they leave a paediatric A&E department.
Mr Rawding, 39, said: “If all our campaigning can prevent even one more death then it will have all been worth it as nobody should have to go through what we have over the last 14 months."
The couple have set up an online e-gov petition. There is a link to the petition at www.redbutterflyfund.com
