McDonald’s has revealed full plans for a new restaurant and takeaway in Gillingham, which will be the largest in the Towns.
The 4,009 sq ft two-storey restaurant in Courteney Road, between Tesco and Dobbies Garden World, will create 65 jobs.
The application was approved by councillors in June.
The restaurant will have a drive-through and although no opening times have been revealed, the planning application says the company’s freestanding restaurants ideally operate 24 hours a day.
The fast food chain already has six restaurants in Medway with the closest 1.7 miles away in Beechings Way, Twydall, and another in Gillingham High Street, 2.6 miles down the road from the proposed site.
McDonald’s has other restaurants in Chatham High Street, Medway Valley Leisure Park, Commercial Road, Strood, and in Anthony’s Way, Medway City Estate.
The company has responded to a number of concerns about litter and healthy eating and say “significant improvements” have been made to food in recent years and say they have provided nutrition information to customers since 1984.
The application states: “McDonald’s believe that giving its customers as much information as possible is the right thing to do, as it allows them to make informed choices about what they eat and drink.”
