Lidl plans to open new store in Gillingham

Supermarket Lidl has put forward plans to build a new store.
The German supermarket chain confirmed today that they are looking to build a store in Medway Road in Gillingham as part of a multi-million pound investment in the local area.
The company said that it had exchanged contracts with the University of Kent to secure the new site.
Plans include an instore bakery, customer toilets and car parking.
Lidl’s Regional Head of Property, Paul Mason said: "We are delighted to be bringing a new store to Medway Road, which marks another milestone in our ambitious store expansion programme.
"We’ve seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to submitting the planning application for our new store in Gillingham, very soon."
The company plans to open up to 50 new stores a year.
