Police called to the Pentagon Shopping Centre in Chatham following reports of a woman in distress

A cordon was put in place at a town shopping centre while police responded to reports of a woman in distress.

Officers spoke to her at the Pentagon in Chatham High Street at 10.40am.

An ambulance was called an an area around the shopping centre was cordoned off.

Pentagon Centre manager Charlene Malone said: "We were notified of a distressed member of the public in the Pentagon service area.

"An ambulance was called and police attended to investigate the situation."

After talking with police the woman was then passed into the care of health professionals and taken to hospital.

Martin Very, a spokesman for Kent Police, said: "We were called at 10.40am on Wednesday 24 March regarding reports of a distressed woman at a shopping centre in Chatham.

"Officers attended the scene where they spoke to the woman and are now making arrangements to pass her into the care of health professionals."
