Officers are appealing for information following a violent stabbing in Chatham which left two people with knife wounds.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Luton Road just after 3pm on Thursday July 23, following the attack in a communal area of a block of flats opposite the junction for Tramways.

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with injuries to his neck and hand. A woman in her 40s was slashed on her arm and hand.

She also reported that she was punched in the face by the offender. Both have now been discharged from hospital.

Four police cars and a number of uniformed officers were at the scene, and a forensic van also arrived during the course of the evening.

A cordon was put in place until around 8.30pm while officers carried investigations at the scene and inquiries are on-going.

The suspect is described as a black man, with short black hair, aged approximately 30 years old, around 6ft tall and of heavy build.

He was wearing a white t-shirt and may have left the scene in a vehicle described as black and of a similar size to a Ford Mondeo or Hyundai.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance said at the time: "We were called to Church Terrace to reports two people were believed to have been stabbed.

"We sent two ambulances and a paramedic car and were joined there by the Air Ambulance.

"A male and a female were both injured and initially treated at the scene before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by road with potentially serious wounds."
