A man has appeared in court accused of racially abusing police officers in a town centre.
The officers were called to Rochester High Street on Sunday afternoon after calls from the public about a man said to be behaving in an anti-social manner.
Police approached a suspect at about 1.40pm, who is then alleged to have used racist words to verbally abuse them.
Kevin Ward, 45, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene.
While in custody, he was later charged with allegedly causing criminal damage to a cell, assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening words to cause harassment, alarm and distress.
Ward appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court today where he was bailed to attend the same court on July 2.
