A woman has been found dead close to a town centre railway station.
Southeastern services from London towards Sittingbourne weren’t able to stop at Rochester this afternoon as officers worked near the line in Cory's Road.
Officers were called at around 11.46am to reports of a medical incident and a private car park was cordoned off.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to concerns for the welfare of a woman in a vehicle at a car park in Cory's Road, Rochester.
“Officers attended the scene along with paramedics and a woman aged 54 was confirmed to be deceased.
"Her death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report has been completed for the coroner. The deceased's next of kin have been informed."
Two ambulances, four police cars, and two fire vehicles were at the scene.
Witnesses say there was a cordon in the car park. It is still open, however, it was still being taped off in places.
Commuters were able to still get into the station.
A spokesman for Southeastern explained that passengers could change at Chatham for a train back towards London or travel to Strood which is a short walk from Rochester Station.
They added: “Disruption is expected until 5pm and trains from London towards Sittingbourne will not call at Rochester until at least 3pm. Trains towards London are not affected.”
By 3pm, trains could again stop at Rochester in both directions.
