Police investigate further allegations at Medway Secure Training Centre, Rochester
15:00, 18 April 2016
An investigation is underway after further allegations were made following a documentary exposing alleged abuse at Medway Secure Training Centre.
Footage showing staff appearing to use excessive force to restrain youngsters, children being bullied by staff, officers lying when reporting incidents and staff boasting about hurting inmates at the Rochester centre was captured by an undercover journalist.
More allegations have been made to Kent Police since the videos were shown on a BBC Panorama programme in January and officers are looking into the claims.
A police spokesman said: "Following the broadcast of a documentary relating to the centre further allegations were received by Kent Police and are being investigated."
Following the programme, three men from Medway, aged 25, 34 and 35, were arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
A Medway man, 28, was arrested on suspicion of assault, and a 25-year-old East Sussex man was arrested on suspicion of child neglect. They remain on bail.
