Dispersal zones have been set up across several towns to stop boy racers meeting up this weekend.

The orders will come into force at 6pm tonight (Friday) and run until 6pm on Sunday.

Kent Police say they have taken action in response to a planned car meet.

The dispersal zones will be operation in several areas of Medway where there has been repeated problems with anti-social behaviour and nuisance drivers.

They are around Tesco in Gillingham and Gillingham Buisness Park, Medway City Estate and the Hoo Peninsula, Strood Retail Park and Morrisons in Strood.

Kent Police said: "In response to a planned car meet in Medway this weekend the Community Safety Team have implemented Dispersal Zones across Medway for 48hrs.

"The organiser has been issued with a Community Protection Warning.

"We will be policing the orders."

The orders allow officers to move nuisance drivers on from the area or go as far as seizing vehicles.

Previous dispersal orders for Gillingham, the Medway City Estate and Hoo were put in place in March and April.

At the time, people living near Tesco in GIllingham said they were plagued by the sound of boy racers meeting in the supermarket car park.

Police Sergeant, Steve Holpin of Medway Community Safety Unit said: "The dispersal orders will be in place this weekend to deter and prevent any anti-social behaviour which can arise when large groups of people meet in once place.

"Unauthorised large gatherings near residential and commercial premises can negatively impact a local community. They usually go on until early hours of the morning and can cause excess noise as well as other anti-social issues.

"There is also a safety concern for the attendees when a large number of car enthusiasts and vehicles gather in one place with several serious accidents occurring in Strood previously as a result of similar meets and the activity that results.

"Over the past few weeks we have implemented dispersal orders and will continue to do so where there are concerns from residents and businesses, and will continue to tackle any ongoing issues in Medway."
