A 37-year-old prison officer has been quizzed over allegations "prohibited" items were taken into jail.
Police say the man was arrested at HMP Rochester at around 1.40pm on November 3.
KentOnline understands the matter relates to drugs allegedly being taken into the prison, but this has not been officially confirmed.
A police spokesman said the man, who comes from Sheppey, has been released pending further inquiries.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed an ongoing issue.
A spokesman said: “An officer has been suspended. It would be inappropriate to comment further while a police investigation is ongoing.”
