A racist thug headbutted and abused hospital security guards and even spat at one after kicking-off when he was asked to leave.
Homeless Nathan Brumbaugh was aggressive towards patients and staff at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham on January 15, magistrates heard.
When security personnel were called to deal with him, he not only headbutted one but he spat at another, catching him in the eye.
The 32-year-old then went on to be racially abusive and when police arrived he started calling them vile names too.
Brumbaugh, who is from the Medway area, was arrested and charged with racially aggravated assault and two counts of assault on an emergency worker.
He admitted all three offences when he appeared before magistrates in Margate via video link on September 10.
The bench was told he is now a serving prisoner at HMP Elmley on Sheppey after being jailed for actual bodily harm and stalking and wasn’t due to be released until next year.
Julie Farbrace, prosecuting, said Brumbaugh had appeared in court on August 20 and had entered not guilty pleas to all three charges.
She added: “On January 15 at about 10.40pm at Medway Maritime Hospital, the head of security got a call to say a man was acting aggressively towards staff and patients.
“When they saw him, he became abusive and another security officer tried to calm him down along with another security officer.
“They asked him to leave, but he refused, but they got him to start walking towards the exit.
“He then tries to grab a metal pole but is unsuccessful and they have to start restraining him to get him off the premises.
“He then headbutted one security guard and made contact with the left side of his face under his eye and leaving it sore and red.
“They continue to walk off site and he continues to shout and swear.
“He then said to the guard, ‘Is this your country? Is this how you treat children in your country? It’s typical of your type of people’, and then the police are called.”
The prosecutor went on to tell the court by this time Brumbaugh was being restrained by the guards on the floor.
Ms Farbrace added: “He shouted at the police that they didn’t need to be involved and the security guards held on to him and he is arrested but as he’s being escorted by the officers he gets agitated and called them p***** and d*** heads and spat in the direction of one security guard and got him in the eye and was further arrested.”
The court also heard one of the security guards had written a victim impact statement about his ordeal and said his job was to keep people safe at the hospital and he was disgusted and shocked by the racist tones of Brumbaugh’s language and that the words had caused him distress.
She added: “He was convicted in April this year of battery and criminal damage and got a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement as well as unpaid work and rehabilitation days.”
“But since then he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court for ABH and stalking offences and was remanded over those offences on May 3 and got a 22-and-a-half month sentence on July 17, his release will be April next year.”
Jon Male mitigating told magistrates they could treat his guilty pleas as being entered at an early opportunity because when his client appeared in court in August he was not only legally unrepresented, but there were also no papers (detailing his crimes) available at the time.
Mr Male added: “He accepts it was him and he pleads guilty today.
“He appeared in court in April and got a community order and this could have been dealt with then and if the police had got their act together this could have been dealt with via the community order.
“He’s homeless and is not seeing his son, he takes cocaine and he wants to apologise for his actions. It’s not the sort of person he is normally.”
Magistrates told Brumbaugh the security guards had endured unpleasant experiences because of his behaviour and jailed him for four months.
However, they said the sentence would run concurrently alongside his other jail term.
He was ordered to pay each security guard he assaulted £100.
