An investigation into a rape in a recreation ground has ended as officers say the incident did not happen as it was first reported.
Last Sunday (July 28) police received a report that a girl had been raped while walking through Luton Recreation Ground near Ash Tree Lane in Chatham
A thorough investigation was carried out, which included utilising forensic opportunities, speaking to witnesses and a detailed review of CCTV.
Following these inquiries, officers say the incident was not as first described and are therefore not seeking to identify anyone in connection to the investigation.
Senior Investigating Officer, DI Adam Marshall said: “The safety of women and girls is of paramount importance to Kent Police and as can be seen from this case we will always respond positively, ensuring that officers carry out detailed inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“I want to provide reassurance to the community that we are no longer seeking to talk to anyone else in connection with this incident and are satisfied that there is no wider risk to the public.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank those who came forward to assist our investigation.”
