Strong winds snap branch off tree in Rainham
08:35, 29 July 2017
A road had to be closed late last night after a large branch came down and blocked the carriageway.
Police were called out to Otterham Quay Lane in Rainham after part of the tree fell and closed the road at its junction with Wakeley Road.
It is thought the branch fell about 10.30pm and police closed the road until it could be moved.
Strong winds and rain are thought to have caused the branch to snap off and police coned off the area and parked a patrol car in the road to alert motorists to the danger.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were called at 10.27pm after a tree fell in Otterham Quay Lane, Rainham, blocking the road.
"Police attended the scene and a road closure was put in place.
"Medway Highways was also notified of the incident.
"By 12am the tree had been moved and the road was clear."
