Man dies after crash between a Mercedes convertible and Triumph motorbike in Richmond Road, Gillingham

A motorcyclist has died following a crash this afternoon.

Police officers were called to Richmond Road, in Gillingham, after a collision involving a black Mercedes convertible and a black Triumph motorbike.

They attended along with paramedics and the air ambulance, at around 2.15pm, but the rider of the bike, a man in his 40s, died at the scene.

His next of kin has been informed.

James Street, at the junction with Richmond Road, was taped off by officers.

Speaking earlier, a worker from kebab shop Istanbul Flames, in Richmond Road, said: "The road has been closed for about two hours.

“I did not see anything myself but apparently there has been an accident involving a bike. The road is closed towards the top end."

A resident, who lives along James Street, said, at around 5pm: “I looked out my window and saw the incident so I called the police just after 2pm.

“The road has been closed off since. The police are still here.”

The air ambulance landed at Great Lines Heritage Park at around 3pm.
