Rochester pupil Paulina Zubryzycka has spoken to Hollywood star Angelina Jolie Pitt on the worldwide refugee crisis.

The UN refugee agency's special envoy, Ms Jolie Pitt has warned that the international humanitarian system for refugees is breaking down.

Among the Radio 4 audience was 12-year-old Thomas Aveling School pupil Paulina Zubryzycka, who asked the Hollywood star how people should support young migrants entering their community.

Speaking as part of the BBC's World on the Move day, Ms Jolie Pitt told her the best thing to do was "reach out" and "be a real friend."

"That's a lovely question," she said. "I think I would say the best thing you can do is to be a real friend.

"Be to this new person as you would want to be treated if it was you in that situation - reach out, listen and ask about their culture and where they come from, and help others around you.

"Maybe you see some bullying; maybe you see some people who are not understanding and showing respect. You can really lead by example and embrace them and give them the welcome they deserve."

Paulina said the Hollywood star gave an inspirational speech, adding: "Her answer was very well put together and I definitely know she has been supporting UNHCR for a long time by the way she answered the question."
