A scaled-back plan for new homes have been given the go-ahead despite residents' traffic and parking concerns.

Permission has been given to build 20 homes on land off Swift Crescent, Lordswood.

The plans for the site include demolishing a pre-existing home and garage to make way for the houses, which will have three and four bedrooms.

Roadhouse Building and Civil Engineering Ltd - which is based on the Medway City Estate in Strood - had originally asked to build 39 homes, some of which would have been flats, on the site.

But planning officers had concerns about how much parking there would be, how many flats there would have been, and how close some of the properties would have been to neighbouring homes.

The development will be accessed from Swift Crescent and Vixen Close and there will be a total of 46 parking spaces.

The plans were approved during a meeting of Medway Council's planning committee on Wednesday.

There had been letters of objection from 31 people who had concerns about the safety of the access going off Swift Crescent, and then onto Lordswood Lane.

They were also concerned about over development, and the overspill of parking onto neighbouring roads.

Ward councillor Robbie Lammas (Con), who voted against the plans, said he would like some of the developer's contributions to go to local amenities including the Kingfisher playground and the nearby underpass.
