The 11-year-old who helped direct traffic along icy roads when the Beast from the East hit has been nominated 25 times for a Pride in Medway award.

Drew Stanton, has been recognised for his help and thoughtfulness as he helped calm the traffic chaos in Gad's Hill, Gillingham during the heavy snow in March.

Drew said: "I realised all the cars were rolling back into each other - it was total chaos outside on the dual carriageway.

"I thought it'd be a good idea to help those people, and see if they're okay, so I started directing traffic."

The Robert Napier School pupil was filmed by KMTV directing the cars and the video went viral with over 103,000 views.

Drew has also been highlighted by his school, who, in a post on their website, called him "a fantastic young man" and an "absolute credit to the school".

His mum Fiona Stanton-Wharmby said: "It's absolutely amazing and totally brilliant, I am so proud of him.

"He's like a mini celebrity."

Since helping in the snow Drew has been recognised by people and congratulated for his kindness.

He did manage to have some fun in the snow too and went sledging at The Strand, off Pier Road, Gillingham.

Pride in Medway judges will then decide whether Drew makes the short-list of 35 finalists.
