A salon will be serving up more than just great hair when it opens its new venture this weekend.
Linehan and Co in High Street, Rainham is launching its own coffee bar.
With the growth of the 'super salon' as businesses branch out into cocktail bars and work stations to attract customers, Linehan and Co will be offering drinks not just to its clients but also to anyone who wants to pop in for a cuppa.
The coffee bar will be run by John Linehan, the husband of salon owner Amanda.
The newly-qualified barista will be serving coffees, tea and hot chocolates, as well as sweet treats from Town and Lines Cake Agency, a local supplier based in Rochester.
To mark the new venture, Linehan and Co replaced the mural on its outside wall with a new design based on the famous painting The Girl with a Pearl Earring
The mural had previously been of a woman flicking away a Covid ball. The salon had the original artwork painted by Whitstable artist Sam Giles during lockdown in February 2021, when the business was closed, to "remind clients we are all on a journey to get out of this."
Amanda had always planned to change the mural, and earlier this year decided to ask Sam to create something new to tie in with the new coffee service.
She said: "I know she's not everyone's cup of tea and not everyone is going to know who she is, but The Girl with a Pearl Earring is an iconic piece and I want the salon to be iconic."
The coffee bar opens on Sunday and after that will be open every day except Monday when the salon is closed.
It will offer a sit-in service on Sundays and Tuesdays and will be a takeaway service the rest of the week.
Announcing the opening online, Amanda said: "We've been spending the last 4 months testing out some delicious cakes and quality coffee, and we are super confident we've found you the best."
"Like what you see? Grab a bar stool, place your orders, and watch the main man in action, making your drinks.
"Relax in our cosy 'naughty corner' and pick up a book from our hand-picked selection and sit back and enjoy your Sunday morning.
"You can even sit at our hair stations and plug your laptops or chargers in, if need be! We know you workaholics are out there!
"In a hurry or can't find a seat? Don't worry, we've got takeaway cups and boxes for you to enjoy your cake and coffee on the go."
For the launch day, the salon will be offering free samples of cakes and coffee. It will be from 9am to 1pm this Sunday, at 162 High Street, Rainham.
