Shocking footage catches the moment a stolen car rear-ends another vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The hit-and-run was recorded on a driver’s dashcam along Pear Tree Lane, in Hempstead, Gillingham.
The video shows a blue car, which was reportedly driving erratically before the crash, overtaking the recording vehicle at speed into oncoming traffic before accelerating ahead.
It then crashes into a black vehicle’s rear bumper causing parts of the car to fall across the road.
As the impacted car pulls over, the other motorist drives away and flees the scene into oncoming traffic causing another vehicle to stop in a ditch to avoid it.
It is thought a husband and wife and one of their mums were in the car when it was hit.
The driver who caught the crash on their dashcam, and did not wish to give their name, said: “They were in complete shock and in disbelief of what had just happened to them, disoriented and unsure of what to do.
“I could not believe what I had just seen. The instinct to stay calm and help the people involved in the incident kicked in, all derived from my military service.
“I can only hope that the will law catch up with the perpetrator and justice will be served.”
Police officers investigated the incident and found the vehicle had been reported stolen before the crash.
A spokeswoman for the force added: “Therefore, officers were unable to identify who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. Officers will review any new information which is passed to them.”
Head of road safety at dashcam manufacturer Nextbase, Bryn Brooker, said the video highlights the importance of having a dashcam.
He said: “Dashcam footage is used at court all the time to take dangerous drivers off the road - and protect innocent drivers from insurance blowouts.
“This recording shows the significance of staying alert and practising defensive driving. It does not matter how many times you have driven the same stretch of road without incident - some idiot might make things dangerous fast.
“The recording driver here did the exact right thing.”
Police said no serious injuries were reported and there have been no arrests in connection with the incident in June.
