Medway Tunnel is finally cone free!
After more than six months of tedious traffic queues, the tunnels are finally free-flowing.
Motorists were celebrating the clear run with several posts on social media - with many making the most of commuter-free roads.
The route between Chatham and Strood had been severely impacted by roadworks in and around the tunnel since September 2021.
Works are part of a wider scheme to build a new sliproad off the Medway City Estate.
Drivers were diverted with alternative access to the industrial estate overnight, but single lanes during the day created near-gridlock while works were completed.
It is part of the wider scheme to build a new sliproad off the Medway City Estate, which last week was confirmed as costing an extra £353,000.
