A sportswear chain owned by Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is coming to Medway.
DW Sports Fitness Ltd has taken over the former JJB Sports Store in the Pentagon Shopping Centre, Chatham.
The family owned business, headed by former footballer Dave Whelen who saw his team Wigan win the FA Cup on Saturday, is expanding after taking over several JJB outlets. JJB went into administration in October 2012 with a loss of more than £2,000 jobs nationwide.
DW Sports Chatham will be opening the weekend of the May 25, with special opening offers. It sells brands including Adidas, Nike, New Balance and Asics.
The new store will create up to 20 new jobs.
Dave Whelan said of the opening: "It is part of our continuous strategy to open good value sports stores with fantastic products for all sport and fitness enthusiasts. We strive to offer a fantastic range of sporting clothing and equipment.
"It is out intention to make the DW Sports Store Chatham one of our top retail stores."
The DW Sports Fitness chain was set up in 2009 after chairman Dave Whelan bought 52 JJB fitness clubs and adjoining sports stores.
