Pat Wilson, who fought for the protection of paths and open spaces throughout Kent for more than 50 years, has died at her Rochester home.
Mrs Wilson was aged 97 and still campaigning for both rural and urban rights of way up until the time of her death.
She was vice president of the oldest and respected national conservation organisation, the Open Spaces Society. She represented the Medway branch for more than 20 years.
In 2012 alone, she ensured that more than 120 alleyways in Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham were on the official path map.
Her name was linked to high-profile legal cases and she was always prepared to challenge farmers, landowners and barristers for people's right to enjoy the countryside.
- Tributes to this remarkable woman are paid by her family and the Open Spaces Society in Friday's Medway Messenger.
