Star Trek actor beams in

Star Trek actor George Takei has beamed down in Chatham and can’t wait to take to the Central Theatre stage.
The LA-based actor arrived in Medway today, Monday, to begin rehearsals for his role as the Emperor of China in Aladdin.
George, who played Mr Sulu in the original Star Trek television series and film, hasn’t appeared in panto in England for more than a decade.
He last appeared in Aladdin in Reading 15 years ago.
He said: “I played the part of the Genie in that production but I remember the part of the Emperor and let's just say I will be making some improvements.
“We don’t have pantomimes in the States but I love the tradition of panto in England. I like the idea of the whole family going to the theatre and children getting exposure to the experience of the theatre from an early age. Panto is an important part of British theatre because it builds a base of support and appreciation.”
George talked about last year's Medway panto star Joe Swash, who he met in the jungle when taking part in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
He said: “Joe encouraged me to do, he almost ordered me to, and I’m a very obedient friend.”
